Press Release: Croydon gay group to quiz election candidates

For release: 12 April 2010

A Croydon-based group is to ask local General Election candidates what they plan to do for LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered) people.

Croydon Area Gay Society (CAGS) is asking its members to write to the candidates in their respective constituencies, and will be publishing the answers they receive. With a close-run election expected, the votes of LGBT people nationwide (including an estimated 10,000 in Croydon) could well be critical.

Candidates will be asked nine questions, covering issues ranging from the Human Rights Act to the need for people to have their marriages dissolved before they can officially change gender.

The full list of questions, suggested by the Campaign for Homosexual Equality (CHE), to which CAGS is affiliated, can be found on the CHE website: go to www.c-h-e.org.uk (and follow the link to the Election page).
